  1. OK, so I wasn’t an English major, but I do remember that if a word ended in s, you only added the apostrophe. Are they doing this because the s is silent? Is this the “New Rule?”

  2. Actually, it’s somewhat in flux. Many style manuals now say you always add the apostrophe and the s to everything. However, the AP style manual does not. I think for simplicity’s sake, we will soon see the more uniform approach used.
